Tallahassee, Florida-based VySpine™, LLC has announced a partnership with South Windsor, Connecticut-based Oxford Performance Materials, Inc.

According to the company, VySpine was “created through active internal development and the licensing of various proven technologies using innovative materials and designs.” The company’s line of spine products includes cervical, thoracic, and lumbar solutions. It develops these products for both spine surgeons and health care providers.

Founded in 2000, Oxford Performance Materials (OPM), “exploit[s] and commercialize[s] the world’s highest performing thermoplastic, PEKK (poly-ether-ketone-ketone).” The company has extensive 3D printing capabilities with a particular focus on the orthopedics industry. Additionally, its OsteoFab technology is used in a number of orthopedic implant applications.

Utilizing OPM’s OsteoFab PEKK technology, the two companies will work together to create “differentiated spine fusion products.” Additionally, under the agreement, OPM will be the exclusive manufacturer of the OsteoVy PEKK lattice for VySpine.

OTW spoke with VySpine CEO Tom McLeer about the partnership: “We already were familiar with OPM's excellent track record and work with high-performing thermoplastic PEKK as well as the company's 3D printing capabilities. They are a perfect fit to partner with for our OsteoVy PEKK polymer lattice structure.”

McLeer continued, “We're looking forward to a successful partnership with OPM, who will be producing the OsteoVy PEKK lattice exclusively for us, initially for our interbody products as we receive FDA approvals later this year.”

In the press release, McLeer further discussed OsteoVy PEKK, commenting in part, “The OsteoVy PEKK polymer lattice structure is uniquely designed to promote bone integration. PEKK, unlike other orthopedic polymers, has demonstrated bony apposition performance, allowing for bone growth onto, and throughout, the OsteoVy PEKK lattice.”

OPM Founder and CEO Scott DeFelice also discussed the partnership in the press release. DeFelice expressed excitement about the partnership, stating, “We are delighted to be making this important announcement with VySpine.”

DeFelice continued, “OPM has a history of developing industry partnerships with companies dedicated to innovative solutions that push medical device technology forward in ways that improve patient outcomes. VySpine clearly fits that mold.”
